If you keep getting the "Camera roll isn't backed up by Snapchat" message, don't worry. It's something normal that Snapchat users experience.
The message is the app reminding you that the pictures in the Camera roll tab aren't automatically backed up by them. So, if your phone's gallery were to be cleared, you won't find them there.
Although the Snapchat app doesn't automatically back up your camera roll, there are ways you can save pictures to it. One is through your Memories, while the other is through your gallery app.
I've saved a bunch of my photos and videos to the social media app, and decided to tell you how to do this.
What Does the Your Camera Roll isn't Backed Up by Snapchat Message Mean?
If you see the Camera roll isn't backed up by Snapchat message, it's a reminder that the pictures in your gallery app are not saved on it. You won't see them on the Snapchat app photos if your gallery ever gets cleared.
In case you want to backup camera roll to Snapchat, there are 2 ways to get this done.
How Do You Backup Camera Roll in Snapchat?
1. Save Photos To Memories
The easiest would be to upload pictures to your Snapchat memories folder.
As you can imagine, the process to follow will differ depending on if you have an Android or iPhone.
On an Android device:
- Open Snapchat from your home screen
- Click on the Snapchat memories icon (next to the Shutter button)
- Click on the Camera roll tab option (the section where the "isn't backed up by Snapchat" message appears)
- Tap and hold a picture that you want to upload into the memories tab (you can select as many that you'd like)
- Click on Export once you want to upload photos
- Tap Snapchat from the save destinations
- Press on the Save story button on the bottom corner of your screen
- Tap the Save to Memories icon on the next screen
- Select X from the top left corner, and then choose Discard
- Now head over to the Snaps tab and check whether it worked
To import Snaps on an iPhone:
- Open the Snapchat app from your phone's home screen
- Click on the Snapchat memories tab on the left side of the Shutter button (the gear icon)
- Tap on the Camera roll tab
- Hold down the pictures that you want to upload from your camera roll tab
- Click on the Export button from the bottom of the screen
- Keep scrolling right until you find the More button
- Click on it, and then select Snapchat
- Select Create story after, and then Tap Save icon
Now, open the Snaps tab and check whether you were able to upload camera roll pictures. Hopefully you're good to go now.
2. Use Your Gallery App
Instead of using the memories tab, you can backup pictures through your gallery app. Just remember that you will need a Snapchat folder first.
You probably already have a designated Snapchat folder. In case you don't, here's how you make one:
- Open Snapchat
- Take Snapchat pictures
- Click on the Save snaps button
Once that's done, simply:
- Open the Photos app
- Move the pictures or videos that you want to backup to the Snapchat folder
- Open the Snapchat application
- Click on your Bitmoji to open your Snapchat settings (should be on the top left corner of the screen)
- Click on the Gear icon that is on the top-right corner
- Find Memories from the list and then tap on it
- Click on the Import Snaps from Camera roll option
- Select all the pictures and then hit the Save button once you're done
How Do You Fix Your Camera Roll Isn't Backed Up By Snapchat Error?
Sometimes, the message can pop up as an error when just on the social media platform. There are a couple of ways to fix this:
Solution 1: Check Your Internet
If your internet connection isn't the best, Snapchat can act up and cause all kinds of errors, including the one you're facing. Fixing this is easy. Simply disconnect and then reconnect back to your WiFi.
Try moving closer to your router, as you may be too far away. This can affect your connectivity.
Solution 2: Clear Snapchat App Cache
There's a chance that the app's cache may have become corrupt. Clearing its temporary data will help. In case you're wondering, you won't lose any important data in the process.
The process to follow will differ depending on your phone's OS.
On Android devices:
- Launch the Settings app
- Go to Apps
- Scroll down and select Snapchat from the list
- Tap the Storage button
- Click on Clear Cache
- Tap Clear Data
For iPhone and iPad:
- Open the Settings app
- Go to Storage, and click on Internal Storage (will be under the Device Storage menu)
- Tap Cached Data
- Click on the OK button once you are done
Solution 3: Update Snapchat App Latest Version
If you haven't updated the application in a while, the camera roll isn't backed up error won't be a surprise. You're probably dealing with some kind of bug because it's outdated. Just remember that you will need a stable internet connection to update it.
On an Android device:
- Open the Google Play Store from the home screen
- Click on the profile icon on the top-right corner
- Tap Manage Apps & Device
- Find the Snapchat app
- Click on the Update button to download any new firmware
On iPhones:
- Open the Apple app store from the home screen
- Click on your profile icon on the top-left corner of the screen
- Scroll down to see all of the applications with pending times
- Find the Snapchat app and click the Update button next to it
Solution 4: Update Operating System
Just like you might have luck with updating the Snapchat app, you might also have luck with updating your phone's operating system. It may be bugging out because you haven't updated it in a while.
Here's what you do on Androids:
- Connect your phone to the internet
- Open the Settings app
- Select the About Phone option
- Tap Check for Updates
- Tap Install in case there is a new firmware file
When it comes to iPhones, there are 2 ways to get the job done. You will once again need a stable internet connection.
Method 1:
- Open the Settings app
- Go to General
- Click on Software update
- Tap the firmware file
Method 2:
- Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB or lightning cable
- Close all the other programs that are running
- Click on the Summary tab, and select Devices
- Choose the Update iPhone option
- Follow any on screen instructions that appear
