Does Klarna Accept Chime Debit and Credit Cards? Here's Everything to Know

Lindsay Hayes

Klarna does not take Chime debit or credit cards. It's a pretty popular retailer, so being able to use Chime on it would have been a plus point. However, there are other payment methods you can use, like Visa, Mastercard, Discovery, and Amex.

I think Klarna is a great site - I've used it to buy gifts whenever I was in a pinch. I recently got a Chime card and tried to use it on the Klarna app, but to my surprise, my payment was declined.

I did some research on this, and decided to show you everything you need to know, as well as some additional information.

Does Klarna Accept Chime Card?

As mentioned, Klarna does not accept Chime. Regardless of whether you use a Chime credit or debit card, you won't be able to make online purchases from the site with it.

Chime is a financial technology company after all, and not a bank. So it's no surprise that they don't undertake payments from any of their cards.

The retailer has been declining chime cards for a while now, no matter their type. However, they used to accept this payment method a while back.

Before we move on to the next section, I've heard some users say that they've had luck with the Chime Credit Builder card. However, this is probably just a rumor.

What Cards Does Klarna Accept?

Let's talk about the cards that Klarna accepts. You'll be able to use any major debit and credit card. So, Klarna works with Mastercard, Discovery and Amex.

Just remember that when it comes to Amex cards, Klarna does not accept Amex's one-time cards.

Also, you can use Capital One for debit card payments, but not their credit cards.

The above is true for Klarna purchases on both the Klarna app and the Klarna website.

Does Klarna Accept Prepaid Cards?

No, Klarna does not support prepaid cards. As mentioned, you can only use Amex, Discovery, Visa, or Mastercard debit and credit cards with your Klarna account.

Why Won't Klarna Accept My Visa or Discovery Card?

If your card suddenly stops working on Klarna, not to worry. It's a pretty common problem that many users have faced.

Usually, it pops up when you make too many purchases in a short amount of time. The only thing you can do is wait a day or two and then try again.

However, you might also face the problem if you don't have a good payment history. Remember that Klarna is a buy now pay later platform, so if you don't make payments on time, you might not be able to make any future purchases. If this is what you're dealing with, immediately pay off any payments that are due.

Lastly, you might be dealing with a glitch. Try restarting your phone.

If the regular restart didn't help, it might be time to force restart. It's like doing a regular restart but more comprehensive.

Does Klarna Accept PayPal Credit?

No, you can't use PayPal on Klarna either. You'll have to use Mastercard, Visa, Amex, or Discovery.

Does AfterPay Accept Chime Debit Card and Chime Credit Builder Card?

Just like Klarna, Afterpay is another major retailer that lets you buy now pay later. If you're unhappy about Klarna not supporting Chime, Afterpay does. You can use both the Chime debit card, as well as the Chime credit card builder.

What Cards Do Afterpay Accept?

While on the topic of AfterPay, let's take a look at some of the cards that they accept. It's a pretty standard selection, as you'll be able to use Mastercard, Visa, Amex and Discovery cards, as well as Chime.

Final Thoughts

So, does Klarna accept Chime cards? There is no chance for Chime users to link their card and use Klarna.

When you try to make Klarna purchases with Chime debit and credit cards, error messages might pop up saying "we don't support your bank's card", along with multiple payment issues that get declined. This is the case for Chime debit cards as well as the Chime builder card.

Some users say they've had luck with the Chime credit builder cards, as these cards are linked to a Chime secured account with money. However, this is just a rumor. You might find it interesting that Klarna used to accept the Swedish company at one time, even though they do not support Chime anymore.

I also discussed the banking services that you can use to make Klarna payments. Although you won't be able to use your Chime card, all major credit and debit cards are accepted. And no, they do not accept prepaid cards either.

Chime is owned by the Bancorp Bank, a major name in the industry. So we may hear that Klarna will eventually start supporting Chime for online shopping in the future.
