Can I Send Money to Myself with Zelle?

If you have two bank accounts, you can certainly send money from one bank account to another. However, there is one important thing to keep in mind for this to work.

If you're worried that Zelle might notice two bank accounts with the same name, that won't be a problem.

You need to make sure there's a different email address or US mobile phone number registered to each Zelle account.

When it comes to Zelle, you can send and receive money using the other person's email address or US mobile number.

As long as you have completely different details for each Zelle account linked to your bank accounts, you won't have an issue sending money from one to another.

How Do I Use Zelle Between My Own Bank Accounts?

Now that you know that it's possible to send money from one bank account of yours to another, the question is: how?

Well, the good thing is that it's super easy to do, and it's the same process if you wanted to send money to a friend's bank account.

Here are the steps you need to follow to send money from one bank account to another, in just a few easy steps:

  1. Open Zelle. You can do this by opening the standalone mobile app for Zelle, or by accessing the Zelle interface in the app for your financial institution.
  2. If your phone number is saved to your contacts, search for it and select it.
  3. If you don't have your contact stored, manually add a new contact by pressing "Add New Contact".
  4. Enter the details for this new Zelle account, making sure that you're registering an account that has completely different details. You can either enter the phone number or email address tied to the Zelle for that bank account. Press "Save" once you're done.
  5. Enter the amount you want to send to your other bank account. You can even add a note.
  6. Make sure that all the details are correct.
  7. Press "Send" to finalize the transaction to transfer money between your bank accounts.

Once you're done, if everything goes well, your other bank account will receive the money within a few minutes.

How Much Can You Zelle Yourself?

You might be curious as to how much you can transfer. The thing is, this depends majorly on the bank you're using. Each financial institution has different limits if you want to send money with Zelle.

Daily

For most major US banks, you can send at least $1,000 every day, with the exception of Ally and Discover, at $500 and $600 respectively.

However, for Bank of America and Wells Fargo, you can send as much as $3,500 each day.

Some banks offer higher amounts, but this usually only applies to their business accounts. For instance, with Bank of America, it can go as high as $15,000.

Monthly

When you want to transfer money from one bank account to another that's connected to Zelle, your monthly limits for online banking with Zelle will obviously be much higher.

Depending on your bank, this can start from as low as $5,000 (PNC Bank, Citizen's Bank, Charles Schwab, etc.) to as high as $20,000 (Wells Fargo, Bank of America).

Similar to your daily limit, if you have a business bank account, you can send more. This goes as high as $60,000 for a bank like Bank of America.

Can I Have More Than One Bank Account Linked to My Zelle?

You can only have one bank account tied to each Zelle account.

Of course, there's nothing stopping you from having more than one Zelle profile, as long as you use a different phone number or email address to sign up.

If you use the same email address or US mobile number, it simply won't work.
