But the thing is, it can also be someone trying to scam you (more on this later).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I've been using Cash App for a while, and have dealt with a few random people sending me money before. Just last week, someone sent me 100 bucks, and I couldn't figure out who it was, even after checking their tag. If it's someone that you personally know, they probably also texted you about the payment. But if they didn't, you can always figure it out by checking out the payment details - the user's account information should be on there (I touched on how to do this later)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Late_Payment\"><\/span>2. Late Payment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There's a chance that the cash was for something that someone owed you. You probably got a message along with the payment telling you what it was for. But if you didn't, you can once again check the payment details, and try and figure things out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Accidental_Payment\"><\/span>3. Accidental Payment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There's also a chance that the payment was accidental. Unfortunately, it can be hard to figure out whether this is actually what happened, so you'll have to get in touch with the <a href=\"https:\/\/cash.app\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cash App support team<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Cash_App_Scams\"><\/span>4. Cash App Scams<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of the time, users send money randomly when they're trying to scam. The scam usually works like this: they would ask you to send them back the cash they sent you, while also speaking to Cash App and trying to get a refund from their end. So, they'd get double the money in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is one of the most common Cash app scams, but other scams include users saying they have a prize for you, and then asking for cash to get a code to unlock it, or threatening to hack you and asking you to send money to prevent it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Do_You_Do_if_a_Random_Person_Sent_Money_on_Cash_App\"><\/span>What Do You Do if a Random Person Sent Money on Cash App?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 4 steps to follow whenever a random person sends money to your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_1_Check_the_Cash_App_Users_Profile\"><\/span>Step 1: Check the Cash App Users Profile<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing that you should do is try and find the sender's profile. They might be someone you know, and not a stranger at all. You can do this by doing the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Launch Cash App<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log into your Cash App account by entering your Cash App pin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the Activity Status page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look for the Cash App payment in question<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You should see the name and profile picture of the person who sent you the money - there might be a message that they've sent along with the payment. Click on it, and then check whether it clears up why you might have gotten the money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_2_Speak_to_Family_Members_Friends\"><\/span>Step 2: Speak to Family Members &amp; Friends<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don't recognize the Cash App user, speak to your friends and family about the money that you received. Definitely don't accept the payment yet, as it can be a Cash App scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully, it's someone you know that has sent the money. But if it's not, I'd recommend speaking to the Cash app customer service team. Here's method 1:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Open Cash App<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap on your profile icon in the top left-hand side<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll Down<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Cash App Support button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the Something Else option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the issue that you would like help with<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down and then select the Contact Support option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a description about the issue: say that you've randomly gotten money on your Cash App account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the Continue button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the method that you would like the Cash App representatives to get back to you - the Cash support team will guide you through the best approach to take now<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here's method 2 to contact Cash App support:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Get your phone, and then dial the following number - 1 (800) 969-1940<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listen to the prompts on the screen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Customer Service option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide your Cash App account details<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow the instructions to be directed to a representative, and then tell them about getting a payment from a random person<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here's method 3 that Cash App customers can get in touch with them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Find the Cash App support team from one of their social media channels, like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact the Cash App team through a direct message, and tell them about the issue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait for a response from the support representative on what to do<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_3_Decide_to_Refund_or_Accept_Money\"><\/span>Step 3: Decide to Refund or Accept Money<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The last step is deciding what to do with the money. If the cash was meant to be sent to you, like from a family member or friend, then you should definitely accept it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here's how you can accept money on Cash App:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Launch Cash App<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log into your account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the Activity tab (also known as Balance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You should see your account transaction history here now<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the incoming transaction for the cash you just received<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you've located the payment, tap on it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You should see an Accept or Confirm button next to it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the option to accept the money<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will be asked to confirm your identity, and to provide additional information, as one of Cash App's safety features<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow the on-screen instructions to finish up the accepting money process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You should now see the cash that was sent to you added to your Cash App balance - you can use it for anything you want now<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This goes without saying, but if you've figured that the cash wasn't meant for you, you should send it back. Also, you can set up <a href=\"https:\/\/cash.app\/help\/us\/en-gb\/3120-enable-security-lock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Touch ID<\/a> to make your account even more secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But to have the safest possible experience, you have to be mindful of how you protect yourself on the app. Here are some suggestions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Keep your account information and login credentials secure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verify anyone who you're sending money to<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be cautious of unsolicited messages or emails asking for personal information to accept a payment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure you've switched on two-factor authentication, as well as PIN or Touch ID protection on<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Should_I_Receive_Money_From_Strangers_on_Cash_App\"><\/span>Should I Receive Money From Strangers on Cash App?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If the cash was sent by someone by accident, you should definitely not accept the payment - the person who sent you it may urgently need it back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, the cash may have been sent by someone as a token of kindness, or as a payment for something that they owed. So, in these circumstances, you should of course keep the money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like I said, though, there's also the chance that the person who sent you money randomly is trying to commit fraud. Generally speaking, you can tell if they ask you to send the money back on a different platform, as Cash App won't be able to track the payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_It_Safe_To_Give_Out_Your_Cashtag\"><\/span>Is It Safe To Give Out Your $Cashtag?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer's both yes and no. I'll start with the no first - the moment you give another user your $Cashtag, they can start working on figuring out the pin to get into your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you're too cautious and avoid giving anyone your tag, you won't be able to receive cash. Also, the risk of getting hacked is significantly lower if you have 2FA enabled, so you don't have to worry too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to the other side of things, remember that the tag doesn't give users any of your private banking details.
